Rev David D. Colby

Rev. ColbyRev. David D. Colby was called to ministry at Central in February, 2005 for a four year experiment in whether a downtown congregation that had experienced decades of decline could live or die. In September 2008, the congregation elected Dr. Colby to serve as Central’s first installed (“permanent”) pastor since the early 1990s. Encouraged by Central’s growth and signs of revitalization, Colby says, “I continue to feel a deep sense of call to imagine new ways of being the church together and to be in the heart of the city for good.”

David has his roots in the Saint Paul area, having grown up in Roseville. He is a graduate of Roseville Area High School, Macalester College, McCormick Seminary, and Columbia Theological Seminary, where he received his Doctor of Ministry degree with a research project entitled, “Gen X Goes to Church.”

Prior to his arrival at Central, he served as the Interim Associate Pastor at Macalester Plymouth United Church in St. Paul. From 1997-2003, he served as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Children at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware. David is involved in the larger church, serving as a member of board of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians and as the Moderator of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area.

David and his wife Laura have two children: Amaya and Maxwell. His hobbies include reading, tennis, cross-country skiing, and backpacking.
