Anna Sandberg Sanchez has worked at Central since September 2010, as Barb Westman’s sous chef. She says she “found this awesome position purely by accident” when her roommate applied for the job but turned it down. She asked if Barb still needed someone, and Barb had her come in to help with a Tuesday evening session dinner, in order to test her kitchen skills. “I carmelized some onions and she hired me on the spot!”
Her interest in cooking goes way back, and she has worked in the food service field professionally for more than 10 years, most recently as a restaurant manager. But she says “the long hours and cranky customers drove me back into the kitchen, where my heart really belongs.”
Anna was married in December to her husband David, who is also a chef, and says she is enjoying married life. “He cooks, cleans, and lifts heavy stuff, so what more could I want?” She has three cats, whom she says she spoils shamelessly, and sometimes takes in rescue dogs from puppy mills and plays foster mom until they are adopted out.
